February is the month of LOVE, but not all romances in the Harry Potter series ended with happily ever after. The theme of this month’s Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Brilliant Events is An Imperfect Love.

The first week will be February 9-16, 2021. The second week will be February 23 to March 2, 2021. This Wizards Unite guide covers the tasks, rewards, store packs, tips, and more for the first week of An Imperfect Love.

Note: Thank you Niantic and WB Games for providing this information early so Wizards Unite Hub could create this event guide.

An Imperfect Love Brilliant Event Week 1 Guide

Once again, this Brilliant Event has been adapted so you can play at home. Please continue to stay safe and to follow all local laws and guidelines.

Keep reading to learn all the details of An Imperfect Love Brilliant Event Week 1. You can also watch my video, which includes some very honest opinions on certain tasks.

Brilliant Event Tasks

Some of these tasks are different! Many players will enjoy the challenge, but I know that many other players will be frustrated.

To prepare for the third set of tasks, do not visit the Brilliant Registry Page until you reach that step! Also, stop returning Brilliant Foundables once you reach 19 of either. Once you reach 20, you’re automatically taken to the Brilliant Registry Page, which you do not want.

To prepare for the Bonus Assignment, do not PLACE any Images on the new Brilliant Registry page until you reach that step. This will allow you to place Images quickly.

However, if Brilliant Traces are plentiful for you, you can choose to place the Images multiple times. This allows you to grind Brilliant Family XP and earn more Brilliant Runestones. Personally, with this task being in the Bonus Assignment, I will go ahead and place Brilliant Quidditch Fan Hermione and Brilliant Quidditch Keeper Ron instead of waiting.

An Imperfect Love Quest 1/4

First big change-up in tasks is requiring players to brew 1 Baruffio’s Brain Elixir. To do this quickly, brew it the day before and wait until the event begins to collect the Potion.

However, if you need Powdered Dragon Claw, that is a reward for the typical task of Collecting items from the Map. Unfortunately, you will then need to wait for the brewing time to finish, or pay Gold to collect the Brain Elixir immediately.

Collect Ingredients or Portmanteaus 2 Times2 Powdered Dragon Claw
Brew 1 Baruffio’s Brain Elixir2 Abraxan Hair
Return 12 Brilliant Quidditch Keeper Ron Foundables1 Tonic for Trace Detection

1st Quest Rewards

  • 550 Wizarding XP
  • 2 Restricted Section Books
  • 50 Brilliant Family XP
  • 10 Spell Energy
An Imperfect Love Quest 2/4

Drink that freshly-brewed Brain Elixir, pop on a Tonic for Trace Detection, and you’ll easily earn the 7000 Wizarding XP from Traces. You might need a second Tonic to return 12 Brilliant Quidditch Fan Hermione Foundables, depending on your RNG.

Unfortunately, doing 15 Great Spell Casts is not so easy. Luckily, the spell for Brilliant Quidditch Fan Hermione is Aguamenti, which is the easiest for many players.

Earn 7000 Wizarding XP from Traces1 Exstimulo Potion
Cast 15 Great Spell Casts5 Leaping Toadstool
Return 12 Brilliant Quidditch Fan Hermione Foundables1 Dark Detector

2nd Quest Rewards

  • 750 Wizarding XP
  • 75 Brilliant Family XP
  • 3 Restricted Section Books
  • 10 Spell Energy
An Imperfect Love Quest 3/4

Another mix of tasks we’ve seen before, but in a new grouping.

To earn 5000 Wizarding XP from Wizarding Challenges, drink another Brain Elixir and hop on the Knight Bus.

To collect Brilliant An Imperfect Love Runestones, visit the Brilliant Registry Page. Each time you level up, you collect a Runestone. To collect 5 of these quickly, do NOT visit the Brilliant Registry Page until you reach this step.

Angelina Johnson will be boosted. You should return enough of her after drinking 2 Tonics for Trace Detection.

Earn 5000 Wizarding XP from Wizarding Challenges2 Dawdle Draught
Collect 5 Brilliant Imperfect Love Runestones4 Armadillo Bile
Return 8 Angelina Johnson Foundables1 Silver Key

3rd Quest Rewards

  • 1250 Wizarding XP
  • 75 Brilliant Family XP
  • 5 Restricted Section Books
  • 10 Spell Energy
An Imperfect Love Quest 4/4

Brewing Potions is a slowdown task, but you can speed it up! After you collect your Brain Elixir in the first task, queue up 4 quick Potions, like Exstimulo Potions or Healing Potions. Wait until you get to this task to collect them all. Then queue up 4 more Potions, but this time, collect each one as soon as its done. You can also spend Gold on a Rental Cauldron to have 4 more Potions waiting to collect quickly.

Formidable Foes have 2 stars. You can find these in the Tower Chambers rather easily. You can double up by using Brilliant Runestones in those Wizarding Challenges.

Brew 8 Potions1 Spell Book
Defeat 15 Formidable Foes in Wizarding Challenges1 Spell Book
Collect 3 Lavender Brown Fragments by Using Brilliant Imperfect Love Runestones2 Spell Books

4th Quest Rewards

  • 5 Restricted Section Books
  • 50 Gold
  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 30 Spell Energy
  • 1 Brilliant Cormac McLaggen Registry Image
An Imperfect Love BONUS Assignment!

The quickest way to place Images in the Brilliant Registry is to wait until this step to do so. You also get the 1 Brilliant Cormac McLaggen Registry Image. When you collect your 4th Quest rewards, do not place him! Wait until the Bonus Assignment list is live. Then go to the Brilliant Registry to place him.

Do a bunch of Wizarding Challenges with Brilliant Runestones to place Brilliant Lavender Brown multiple times.

To earn 12,500 Wizarding XP quickly, once again, drink a Brain Elixir. Use your Trace Charm on every red beam (Severe and Emergency Traces). If you can visit an Inn safely, stack Dark Detectors to attract a greater amount of high-threat Traces. Wait until you’re on the Bonus Assignment to open 20 Gifts, prioritizing any Extravagant Gifts and others with high Wizarding XP.

You will most likely need to drink multiple Tonics for Trace Detection to attract sufficient Legends of Hogwarts Traces.

You need to use 12 of ANY Potion in Wizarding Challenges, but that gives you the freedom to use:

  • Healing Potions
  • Wit-Sharpening Potions
  • Invigoration Draughts
  • Strong Invigoration Draughts
  • any Exstimulo Potions

Casting 10 Masterful Spells will absolutely be a challenge for anyone with dexterity issues. My best advice is to use Tonic for Trace Detection and/or visit an area with a great deal of available Traces. Then prioritize any Traces with an easy spell, like Aguamenti or Meteolojinx Recanto. As already mentioned, Brilliant Quidditch Fan Hermione uses Aguamenti.

Place 5 Images on Imperfect Love Page1 Spell Book
Earn 12,500 Wizarding XP1 Spell Book
Return 25 Legends of Hogwarts Foundables1 Silver Key
Use 12 Potions in Wizarding Challenges10 Spell Energy
Cast 10 Masterful Spells2 Wit-sharpening Potions

Bonus Assignment Rewards

  • 2000 Wizarding XP
  • 100 Brilliant Family XP
  • 5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
  • 1 Brilliant Event Title
  • 20 Spell Energy
  • 5 Brilliant Crookshanks Fragments
Brilliant Foundables and Where to Find Them

Just like previous Brilliant Events, you will only be able to encounter some of these Brilliant Foundables in the wild. The others are available as rewards for doing Wizarding Challenges with Brilliant Runestones and unlocking Brilliant Portkeys.

If you complete the entire Bonus Assignment, you do NOT need to unlock any Brilliant Portkeys.

Tips to Complete the Brilliant Event

If this is your first Brilliant Event, these tips will help you complete the Brilliant Event before the time runs out. With careful planning, you can complete the Bonus Assignment as well!

  • As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you Part 1 Rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them during Part 2. Brilliant Portkeys will glow purple on the Map. Be sure to pick up 5 Brilliant Portkeys during the Brilliant Event, even if you don’t open them all during the event.
  • If you are nervous about finding time to walk the Brilliant Portkeys, you can also earn the necessary Foundable Fragments by completing the Bonus Assignment.
  • To find Brilliant Lavender Brown, you must do Wizarding Challenges with the specific Brilliant Event Runestones. To minimize your usage of Spell Energy, stick with Ruins IV-V Chambers. It might take a few extra Wizarding Challenges to get the 3 Foundables you need, but you’ll be able to do so quickly, without expending too many resources.
  • If you decide to visit Inns, Fortresses, or Greenhouses during this event, continue to practice social distancing. Check out our previous article on staying safe while playing Wizards Unite.
  • Save your Scrolls and your Restricted Section Books until the end of the event. Then use our guide to spend them wisely! That said, most Aurors and Magizoologists have already earned all the necessary Restricted Section Books, and many Professors have also done so. At this point, you can invest your resources in Advanced Adversarial Combat, you can start working on a second profession, or you can invest in SOS Training. That is a personal decision, so good luck!
Brilliant Event Bundles

There are 4 bundles total that will be available during this event. Be sure to snag the Free Bundle as soon as the event starts! The Bonus Bundle will not be available until the Bonus Assignment is unlocked, so keep that in mind.

ENT_-_AN_IMPERFECT_LOVE_I_-_GIFT__BUNDLES-936x1024.jpg

First up, the SOS Bundle! This bundle keeps appearing in Brilliant Events: 5 Silver Keys and 100 Spell Energy for 450 Gold.

You can buy 10 Silver Keys for 720 Gold, making the individual value of each Silver Key 72 Gold. 5 Silver Keys is thus worth 360 Gold. If you only need Silver Keys, the SOS Bundle is not a good value.

100 Spell Energy costs 200 Gold, bringing the bundle value up to 560 Gold, a savings of 110 Gold. This bundle is only valuable if you need discounted Spell Energy.

Next up, the Brilliant Bundle! For 800 Gold, you get:

  • 4 Baruffio’s Brain Elixirs
  • 10 Exstimulo Potions
  • 5 Tonics for Trace Detection
  • 30 Spell Energy

A single Baruffio’s Brain Elixir costs 100 Gold in Diagon Alley. However, if you just need to buy the rare Ingredients, it’s a better deal to spend 20 Gold for 1 Dragon Claw and 12 Gold for 2 Toadstools, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 62 Gold. So let’s put the value of Brain Elixirs at 94 Gold.

Thus it costs 376 Gold to buy 4 Brain Elixirs.

A single Tonic for Trace Detection in Diagon Alley costs 60 Gold. However, you can also buy 4 for 220 Gold, so the individual value is 55 Gold.

Thus the value of 5 Tonics is 275 Gold.

For most players, this bundle is only worth 501 Gold, not a good value.

Even with the added value of the Exstimulo Potions (3 Gold each per Snowdrop, Bitterroot, and Re’em Blood, so 9 Gold per Potion or 90 Gold total), it’s still not a good value.

Finally, the Bonus Assignment Bundle! For 2100 Gold, you get:

  • 10 Strong Exstimulo Potions
  • 10 Potent Exstimulo Potions
  • 5 Wit-Sharpening Potions
  • 10 Silver Keys
  • 150 Spell Energy

A single Potent Exstimulo Potion in Diagon Alley costs 75 Gold. However, if you have all of the common Ingredients, it’s a better deal to buy 1 Unicorn Hair for 30 Gold, use Master Notes in the Cauldron, and then collect the Potion immediately for 41 Gold. So let’s put the value of Potent Exstimulo Potions at 71 Gold.

Thus 10 Potent Potions cost 710 Gold.

We also know that you can buy 10 Silver keys for 720 Gold.

Normally I don’t advise spending money on Strong Exstimulo Potions or Wit-Sharpening Potions. However, players are burning through these for Adversaries Events.

Strong Exstimulo Potions cost 50 Gold each in Diagon Alley. With quick and dirty math, their value is about 41 Gold each if you buy the Exstimulo Crate.

Thus 10 Exstimulo Potions might be worth 410 Gold to some players.

The cost of Ingredients plus the cost of immediate collection for a Wit-Sharpening Potion is 48 Gold.

Thus 5 Wit-Sharpening Potions might be worth 240 Gold to some players.

Even with all that value, before Spell Energy, the overall bundle is only worth 2080 Gold. If you are truly stuck playing at home, and you are not getting many Ingredients or Spell Energy, then the Bonus Assignment Bundle might be a good value.
