We’re still a little over a month away from the very first Wizards Unite Fan Festival, but ticket sales have just gone live! The process for getting one is a little complex, so let’s go over the details.

The Indianapolis Wizards Unite Fan Festival

There are many Potterheads out there, and Wizards Unite is giving us the chance to do just that. Unite. Not just to geek over the game or venture into Fortresses together, though. We are living a magical life that now includes Wizards Unite Fan Festivals (and a surprise or two by Niantic)

Right after the Festival (WUFF) was announced, the official Wizards Unite site got behind it. At first it seemed like they were just publicising the event, but soon it became obvious that they would take a larger part in it.

The WUFF announcement

Here is the tweet from the official Wizards Unite account announcing the festival.

Mark your calendars! Join us this Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis (August 31 – September 1) for the first Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival. Stay tuned for more details. Harry Potter Wizards Unite Real World Event - Indianapolis – Harry Potter Wizards Unite #WizardsUnite

While the tweet tells us to stay tuned for more information, the blog post it links to has been updated with ticket information, as you can see here:

The text reads:

The Special Wizards Unite Fan Festival Features

Wizards Unite held a panel this month at San Diego Comic Con. Attendees (and Potterheads who were paying attention to attendees feeds) learnt a little more of what goes on behind the scenes. Such as the fact that many of the animations for the game are actually recorded using motion-caption. Just imagine those actors acting out the Troll who wants to be a ballerina…

But they also got a peek at what is coming next for Wizards Unite players. You can see the official announcement below.

Dragons, including this Common Welsh Green, will be making their debut at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival in Indianapolis this Aug. 31 – Sept. 1! #WizardsUnite

— Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (@HPWizardsUnite) July 20, 2019

These Dragons will be region-locked in the game, which means that certain dragons will appear in certain parts of the world. We will have to do quite a bit of travelling if we want to return them all. They will show up in the game as Oddities for us to defeat, much like centaurs and vampires.

But (and this is a big but) the dragons will be region-locked after the Wizards Unite Fan Festival. Which means that those attending will actually get the chance to catch them all! (or at least try)

This is a little more information available on the official site:

All ticket holders will explore the sprawling White River State Park as they complete exclusive event-specific Special Assignments and be the first to discover brand new in-game encounters, including never-before-seen Oddities – Dragons. From the Welsh Green to the Antipodean Opaleye, these regional Oddities will be making their landfall debut in the game at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival in Indianapolis this Aug. 31 – Sept. 1. Fans will want to take advantage of this unique opportunity as after the event, the different dragon varieties will only appear in specific regions around the world.
Getting tickets for the festival

As anyone can probably imagine, there will be more people wanting to attend the festival than tickets available. Here is how Wizards Unite is dealing with the issue.

Ticket drawing registration for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival is now open. Register within the app for a chance to join us in the city of Indianapolis on Aug. 31 or Sept. 1. Please note registering for the drawing does not guarantee you a ticket to the event. While both days will offer the same enhanced experience, attendance is limited in order to maintain the best gameplay experience possible, so each ticket will grant access to one day of the event of your choosing. Additional information regarding how the ticket drawing registration system works can be found here.

Those selected in the in-app drawing will be able to purchase tickets for $30 USD, this ticket will grant access from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET on the day selected. Those chosen in the drawing will also have the option to purchase early access tickets priced at $40 USD. Early Access tickets will allow players to enter the event two hours earlier at 9 a.m. ET and give them the chance to enjoy even more time exploring and playing Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

Last week, a little ticket image (located in the top-right corner of the suitcase screen) appeared in our game. When we tapped on the icon we were prompted to enter a drawing for a chance to purchase the tickets. This was in no way a guarantee, but an opportunity to get them, since tickets are sold on a first come – first served basis.

The first ticket drawing

Earlier today (July 22nd) many players who had entered the drawing received this email from Niantic with instructions.

Like we mentioned before, this email does not guarantee a ticket. What it does is give recipients 48 hours to purchase their tickets (up to four per person) before the next drawing.

When following the email instructions and tapping on the ticket image on the game, this is what we get:

In order to claim your tickets, you must choose the day you would like to attend, and whether you want normal or early access. The site also asks for the name of your mobile provider.

After choosing the desired option (if still available) you will reach a screen where you can add up to three other atendees (or four, if you delete yourself from the menu). To do this, you will need to add their Wizards Unite codename, so make sure you have it beforehand. Tickets will definitely go fast, you don’t want to be chasing around for usernames while someone else snatches them off your hands. Once the tickets are purchased, each player will receive all the information and access in their game, so they can have everything ready for the Festival.

Didn’t get the email? There’s still hope!

This was only the first drawing. The second drawing will come in three or four days. There might be more after that, depending on how many tickets are left. So just make sure to keep an eye on your email tray (and spam folder) until everything is sold out.

You should also keep in touch with other players planning to attend the event. Not everyone needs four tickets, so you might be able to get one from someone else. You can check the hashtag #WUFF for news. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other players, Potterheads are a friendly bunch!

Participating Remotely

Although there is still no specifics on this, we do know players from around the world will be able to participate in the Wizards Unite Fan Festival in a certain capacity. Here’s what the official site has to say on the matter:

As players come together in Indianapolis, they’ll be able to commemorate their experience and friendships by snapping photos with iconic elements from the game. Come prepared to contain the Calamity as you’ll need to work with fellow SOS Task Force members within the park, and across the globe, to unlock additional special rewards for the global community.

Can’t make it out to Indianapolis or are unable to get your hands on a ticket? Don’t worry! Players around the world will still be able to participate. Stay tuned for details on how you can get involved remotely.
And that’s a wrap for today!

Did you manage to snag some tickets already? Are you waiting for the email still? How do you think the global community will be able to participate in the festival? Will we get to search for all those dragons for a day, too? Let us know in the comments!
