Today we are sharing our favourite tips for playing Wizards Unite!

I’ll be honest with you: I never played Pokémon GO. I wasn’t a fan of the source material in any of its forms so the game just didn’t appeal to me. Also, at the time it came out I had an old-ish mobile phone and no data plan.

Then came Wizards Unite, and things changed instantly. I’m a huge Potterhead, so this seemed like a no-brainer. But still, I was concered about my lack of experience with AR games, feeling it would be a huge learning curb and I would be so far behind any other player…

Thankfully, Wizards Unite is incredibly intuitive and pretty easy to play. And between that and the support of our amazing community always ready to help and answer questions, it’s been an amazing experience so far. This is what I’ve learnt along the way.

Tips for Wizards Unite

Download assets before you start playing

Just go in the suitcase, then top left corner for settings. Scroll down to Download all assets. This takes up about 3GB of space on your phone, but it will save a lot of data and battery power. On the first day, after almost two hours playing, I had used up about 14mb of data. Breixo came along. He hadn’t been able to download the assets beforehand and during the same time and used up well over 20mb. It doesn’t seem like a huge difference but it adds up.

Trace auto-align on, map camera idle off

You can change these two options through the game settings. The auto align let’s you skip the part where you have to align the three stars over the trace before you can use your spell. This might be me, but I found aligning a little tricky and it slows the encounter down.
Turning off the map camera idle option also makes playing easier. Again, this might be a personal choice. What this option does is it stops your map from spinning around every time something pops up in the vicinity. Which can be a little dizzying.

Skip the Registry for when you’re on wifi

Every time you find or complete a new foundable you are prompted to go to the Registry to place the item. The same happens when you get enough points within a certain family to level up. You get the red dot on the Registry. This won’t make a huge difference, but unless you’re about to level up there is no hurry to tidy up the registry, and skipping it saves you time, power and data when playing.

Use seed and water options wisely

Check the recipe for the potion you want to brew and see what ingredients you are missing. Make sure you plant seeds for those ingredients, you don’t want to fill up your vault with things you don’t need, as space is quite limited. And always check how long the brewing takes. No one wants to get back to that special greenhouse to find out all the ingredients are gone.

Always leave extra room in the vaults

Many achievements will give you potions or ingredients. The same happens when you level up. You can also find svault ome rare ingredients while out and about. You don’t want to miss out on some powerful potions or rare ingredients just because you are out of room. Make sure to keep a slot or two open for such an occasion.

Prioritise vault extensions

This is closely related to the previous point. If you are going to spend game-gold or money on something, vault extensions are the way to go. This is a permanent improvement instead of temporal, such as buying ingredients or potions.

Get rid of common ingredients

Sometimes you’ll get the message that your vault is full. When you go have a look it turns out you have 40 units of newt speel. Try to check the vaults often and get rid of things you don’t need to make room for those super special ingredients.

Don’t be shy about brewing and using potions

This applies even more so to Fortresses. Keep brewing those easy potions, like the Exstimulo, and use them on rare Foundables or challenges. It’s easier to make more potions than it is to get your energy back after a tough encounter. And of course, try to always have something brewing, saves time and you won’t feel guilty about using up your potions. Or is that just me?

Use Master Notes when you’re brewing a potion

You can try to guess them yourself as if solving a puzzle or just check out our post on Potions Master Notes. Once you use them on the same type of potions three times the notes will appear whenever you are brewing to make it easier. It’s important to note that you can use the Master Notes only on the potion you are currently brewing, but you can do it at any point in the process. It will shove off 15% of brewing time regardless of how much time you have left, so there’s no need to rush.

Join a community

And last, find other Potterheads who are playing Wizards Unite and can help you when you get stuck or have doubts. Also, the Harry Potter community is the best out there, so why not? We absolutely recommend joining our Wizards Unite Forum or becoming part of out Wizards Unite discord family. Whichever option you prefer, you will find some amazing people on the other side ready to talk Wizards Unite and share the experience.
