It’s been quite the eventful weekend for Wizards Unite players. First we had the very first Wizards Unite Fan Festival (WUFF) in Indianapolis. Those who managed to assist lived quite the amazing experience playing the game, battling dragons and meeting other Potterheads and many wonderful WuTubers who will certainly be sharing some amazing footage soon.

The Indianapolis Wizards Unite Fan Festival

Although there were a few issues with the weather during the event, the organisers were focused on safety above all and delayed (and then extended accordingly) the beginning of the event because of a thunderstorm. After that, here be dragons!

From giant Nifflers to a MACUSA threat-level clock, every detail was designed to give players a unique experience. During two days, witches and wizards returned lost dragons (and their eggs) to their homes and made sure Muggles were none the wiser.

Here are some images we saw of the event (all of them shared by the official @hpwizardsunite account)

And here’s a snippet of the official post:

During the event, players found themselves immersed in a celebratory experience at White River State Park with all the charms and wonder you’d expect from the Wizarding World. Landmark Flags guided players throughout the park which was filled with ‘gram-worthy decorations and set dressings that brought elements of the game to life. Themed lounges served as the perfect haven for players to relax and recharge, make new friends and even test their game knowledge for a chance to win prizes.

In-game, players were greeted by none other than the famed Dragonologist Charlie Weasley, who briefed them on the dire situation – the Calamity had taken different species of dragons from around the world and distributed them across the park, posing a major threat to the Statute of Secrecy. Witches and wizards joined together and completed a series of Special Assignments to help collect Dragon Eggs and battle the four species of Dragon Oddities. After the event concluded, the four species of Dragons returned home to their native regions, where they’ll be encountered by players as Oddities starting September 7.

A look at the dragons

Here’s what those amazing, and quite scary, dragon oddities look like in-game:

The Global Challenge

While the event took place, the rest of the world saw an influx of special 1km Portkeys that took us to the Forbidden Forest and yielded a dragon egg along with some other goodies (including spell energy!)

During the Challenge, which lasted 48 hours. our goal was to return as many dragon eggs as possible in order to unlock an entire week of special rewards. Each reward corresponded with a certain egg type, and it unlocked when players returned 1,00,000 eggs of the same type worldwide. Let’s have a look at the goals, the rewards and the results.

WUFF and Global Challenge Rewards

Here are the goals and rewards for the event and global challenge:

Day of the Dragon

Unlocked if WUFF attendees returned 150,000 dragons.

Witches and Wizards in Indianapolis unlocked this reward about halfway through the first day. I’m sure we’re all thankful for their hard work. Thanks to them we’ll get to return a second dragon on September 7.

Day of the Dragons will take place on September 7. During three hours (the same time as Community Days so far) two types of dragons will appear on our map.

One will, of course, be our regional dragon. The other one depends on the amount of eggs returned in each area. The type with the highest return rate (not counting your regional dragon) will appear on that region’s map for three hours. After that, the dragons, and their eggs, will be region-locked.

Here is when Day of the Dragon starts in your region:

  • Asia-Pacific: September 7, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. AEST (UTC +10)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India: September 7, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC
  • Americas and Greenland: September 7, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PDT (UTC -7)

Here is a list of each in-game are, their regional dragons and their bonus, Dragon Day dragon.

  • Oceania:
    • Regional dragon: Antipodean Opaleye
    • Bonus dragon: Chinese Fireball
  • Asia, the Middle East and India:
    • Regional dragon: Chinese Fireball
    • Bonus dragon:Antipodean Opaleye
  • Americas and Greenland:
    • Regional dragon: Peruvian Vipertooth
    • Bonus dragon: Chinese Fireball
  • Europe and Africa:
    • Regional dragon: Welsh Green
    • Bonus dragon: Chinese Fireball
Special Challenge Bonuses

It wasn’t only WUFF atendees that had a goal to reach. Once players returned 1,000,000 eggs of a certain type, they would unlock a corresponding bonus.

These bonuses or rewards begin at 10 A.M. PDT on September 2 and last until September 9 at 10 A.M. PDT.

On Sunday September 1 we reached the Chinese Fireball Eggs goal. After the end of the Fan Festival we discovered we had, in fact, reached all four goals. Their special bonuses are now live.

The Challenge Bonuses:

During 7 days, all Wizards Unite players will enjoy the following bonuses:

  • 25% Wizard XP Bonus
This bonus covers everything and anything that grants Wizard XP in the game (not Family XP)
  • 1/2 Portmanteau walking distance
You will only see this once you use a key on a Portmanteau. Half of its distance will automatically appear as if it is already done (For example, if you activate a 10KM Portkey the distance tracker will appear halfway done, showing only 5KM left before it’s unlocked).
  • 1/2 Potion Brewing Time
This won’t show in your potions page. However, once you choose a Potion to brew you will see it shows half the time it normally would. This might be a great time to stock up on those slow-brewing Brain Elixirs.
  • 2x Dark Detector Duration
Right after they tweaked our Dark Detectors to make sure traces appeared closer to the inn we get this bonus. Thanks to having returned all those Common Welsh Green Eggs, Dark Detectors will now last an entire hour, making this a great opportunity to camp out in an Inn-heavy area and grind for some special, rare Foundables. Remember you can use up to three Dark Detectors at once in a single Inn for maximum results.
And that’s it for today
