Official Public Service Announcement

The Calamity puts us all in danger, and it must be contained.

We feel it is our duty to inform the public that yet another trace of magic has been detected in the Muggle world. You may read our official Muggle-proof Tweet right here.

Early this morning, the Statute of Secrecy Task Force received credible information of a loose Niffler roaming around a large Muggle city. Task Force Members immediately Apparated to the scene but were unable to locate the rogue Niffler.

Muggle witnesses claimed they saw it climb into a bank transport vehicle just before the doors closed.

We want to assure the public that the exposure is being contained. All witnesses have been Obliviated and our agents are currently following every lead. It is only a matter of time before the Niffler is safely captured and contained.

Meanwhile, we cannot stress enough how important it is for the wizarding public to remain alert.

We urge every witch and wizard to enlist and join our SoS Task Force here. The Calamity must be stopped now, or we could lose everything.

For those members of the public who do not wish to become members of the Task Force, we would like to share some important information about Nifflers, so you may be ready if you come into contact with it.

The Rogue Niffler

The most important thing to remember about Niffler is their obsession with shiny objects. Nifflers are fast and limber. Their magical pouches can hold several times their own size and weight in whatever objects catch the Niffler’s fancy. So the best way to be safe from a Niffler is to keep your valuables hidden.

However, even this may not be enough. Nifflers have been used for many years by Gringotts Goblins and Curse Breakers to search for hidden treasure, since they have a knack for finding shiny objects even when buried.

There have been other instances of rogue Nifflers. Most recently, you might remember the incident at the Ministry of Magic New Year’s Eve ball. There have also been some unverified reports of Niffler activity in wizarding areas, as reported by The Quibbler.

In fact, you should probably read our Guide to Nifflers to learn more about them, and how to best deal with the situation at hand.

If you come in contact with this, or other, rogue fantastic beast, here are a few things you must remember:

  • Keep calm. Most magical creatures can sense distress and might become violent.
  • Contact the SoS Task Force through the Wizards Unite App
  • Do not attempt to physically apprehend it. Fantastic beasts are exceptionally good at defending themselves.
  • If you cannot wait for reinforcements, you may attempt a simple Stunning Spell or a Banishing Spell if the creature attacks.
  • Pay attention to every detail during the encounter. Your memories will be needed to investigate the case fully

Wizards Unite Game App

As part of our new approach to The Calamity, the Ministry of Magic began working along with several Muggle governments in an attempt to blend magic with Muggle technology.

We have developed an App that Muggles will be able to use as if it were a mobile game, but at the same time it will work as an alert system for our Task Force.

Through the game technology and specially adapted Muggle phones, Task Force members will be able to covertly use magic in Muggle areas to capture rogue beasts, collect artifact and even discreetly interact with one another.
