Wizards Unite Brilliant Event Walkthrough: Circus Calamitous 🎪

circus calamitous i brilliant event featured image

It’s time for the next Brilliant Event! We finally (and with very little time to spare) got the details for this event, the Circus Calamitous Part I. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like this one will take a lot of planning and preparation before the actual start.

This event will focus on a special wizarding circus from the 1920s, the one we got to see in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Let’s have a look at the tasks, the rewards, and those brand new Foundables we’ll be getting this week!

Circus Calamitous I Brilliant Event

Lasting an entire week  as usual (from March 10th to March 17th), this will be the first part of the Circus Calamitous Brilliant Event (with the second part running later this month). This event will let us complete the first page of the event Registry and also get some more of those precious restricted books that are holding our professional careers back.

Circus Calamitous I Event tasks

Just like in all previous events, this one will be split into four parts. Every task will have its own reward, with a larger reward once each of the four parts is completed. This is where we will get our Restricted Section books, along with Brilliant Foundables, event XP and much more. Let’s take a closer look at those tasks.

Our take on the tasks

Let’s look a little deeper into the tasks and figure out which ones we’ll need to prepare for, which ones might hold us back and more.

The Potions

The Circus Calamitous I Brilliant Event  will thankfully require very little brewing. We only need to collect two Healing Potions in part 1/4 of the tasks. We will also need to use three Healing Potions to complete part 2/4 but considering the time we’ll be spending in Fortresses it shouldn’t be an issue.

Unfortunately, there will be no extra perks related to potions this time around, neither from using the potions nor from placing Foundables in the Brilliant Event Registry Page like we saw during the Love Lost event.

The Spells

During this event we will see an increased number of Alohomora-related Confoundable Magic. During part 3/4 we will need to cast (not necessarily successfully as simply tracing the spell will count towards this task) Alohomora 10 times.

These are all the Foundables that need Alohomora:

  • Buckbeak – Care of Magical Creatures Family
  • Thestral – Dark Arts Family
  • Fawkes – Hogwarts School Family
  • Mooncalf – Magizoology Family
  • Erumpent – Magizoology Family
  • Demiguise – Magizoology Family

The Portkeys

All Circus Calamitous Brilliant Portkeys will be 3 km.

For this event we will need to unlock three Portkeys of any type to complete part 3/4. This is part of the third set of tasks, so if you don’t have silver keys or don’t want to use them you can simply take a little more time. If you are good at gauging distance walked, you might even be able to get some Portkeys started beforehand and have them almost ready by the time you reach this step.

I tried this once but got a little too close to opening before I finished the previous task. Then the game decided to add a few hundred metres on its own and opened the Portkeys before time. Which is why I recommend being careful here.

Another thing worth mentioning: Portkeys from the Brilliant Event Part I will always yield a Part I Foundable (in this case Brilliant Skender). So keep that in mind and make sure you don’t fill up your queue or leave them unopened, or you might run out of room and waste time when Part II begins. Also, if you have Brilliant Portkeys left over from the previous event remember there’s no way to tell them apart.

The Fortresses

This Brilliant Event will rely quite heavily on Wizarding Battles. And it might be trickier than we would’ve hoped.

In order to complete part 2/4 we will need to defeat 5 foes and earn 500 Wizarding XP from challenges. How fast you complete this will certainly depend on the chamber level you decide to battle in. Going for a higher level chamber will allow you to gather those 500XP much faster. Using Baruffio´s Brain Elixir will also come in handy, since it will double the amount of XP received when completing the challenge. Keep this in mind if you’re trying to complete this event fast.

The tasks for part 4/4 might give us quite a bit of trouble, though. First, we need to defeat 10 Formidable foes in challenges.  Formidable Foes are much easier to find in higher chambers, so you’ll want to choose accordingly.

But it’s not this specific task that’s giving us pause. Another one of the tasks (unless they change it – like they did once before- because of players complaints) will require us to win a challenge at the highest unlocked level.

Here are some reasons why this could be a problem:

Many players complete Wizarding Challenges in teams, with teammates that are a higher level and can ‘carry them’ through the chambers, meaning they do most of the work during the battle, allowing players that are at a lower Profession level to open chambers they would never be able to complete on their own. Which means they will need teammates to complete this event task.

There are also players who use a lot of resources (such as potions and large amounts of spell energy) to open as many chambers as possible. So they might not have enough potions at hand to open yet another level.

My highest open level, for example, is Dark Chamber IV. It took a lot of potions to complete Dark Chamber III solo and, although I’ve tried to complete Dark Chamber IV on a few occasions, I’ve always ran out of time just a foe short of winning. I don’t think I have enough potions for more than maybe two or three attempts, which could easily make this event impossible to complete in time.

Our advise here: Use a level 1 Runestone to lower the difficulty as much as possible, try to organise a team get-together if you usually play in group, and make sure you have enough potions and spell energy for a few attempts.

Brilliant Event Tips

Here are a few tips to keep in mind before and during the event.

  • Brew your Potions in advance. You will need to use 3 Healing Potions and brew 2 of them.
  • Keep those cauldrons working. While you won’t need specific potions to complete tasks, you will probably need some Exstimulos and Healing Potions at the very least to get through all the Fortress Battles. Best to be ready.
  • Keep an eye out for those Alohomora Foundables in part 3/4 and the Bonus Tasks. If you don’t see many on the map remember you can simply cast your spell badly so you will be able to cast it several times on the same Foundable and make faster work of that task.
  • Don’t be shy about using those Dark Detectors. And remember you can use up to three in the same Inn.
  • Remember you need to unlock 3 Portkeys for part 3/4 and another 5 in the Bonus Assignment. Make sure you have enough Silver Keys available if you think you will need them.
  • When facing high-level Chambers make sure you have enough spell energy and potions before going in.
  • Remember Formidable Foes are easier to find in higher-level Chambers. You will need to defeat 10 of them so that might take a few battles.
  • Check what your highest open Fortress Chamber is and decide whether you can win that level on your own or will need the help of some other players. Organise accordingly.
  • Consider using a lower-level Runestone in your highest unlocked chamber to keep the difficulty lower.
  • Check out our Friend Code map and grab some codes. Friend Gifts always come in handy.
  • If you can, try to start the event with full energy. It will make the first day go much better.
  • Find an area with enough Inns and Greenhouses to move between. Remember the 5 minute waiting period.
  • Master your spells. And most importantly, remember the game values speed over accuracy.
  • Use Exstimulo Potion as needed. Remember that any leftover potion will be saved for the following encounter.
  • Make room in your vaults for ingredients and potions. You will need it.
  • We’re all sure to meet some new Potterheads during the week. What better way to make new friends and possibly new teammates for your next Fortress incursion? Don’t be shy and reach out!
  • And the most important one: Have fun! (And try to convert as many Muggles as possible!)

That’s what we have for today, so go play!

Make sure you’re ready to make the most of the event, add your Friend Code to our map if you haven’t yet. You can also have a look around the map and find players in your area!

We also have a Local Community Map where you can add your Wizards Unite Communities for other players to find you!

If you have any more tips for new players make sure to leave them in the comment section! We’d love to make the most the event.
