Wizards Unite Event Walkthrough: Darkest of Times II

darkest of times ii walkthrough image30EBB

It’s almost time for the second part of the Darkest of Times Wizards Unite Event to begin! Just like in Part I, the Calamity seems to be laser-focused on Albus Dumbledore with Brilliant Foundables that were part of his life, such as the Deluminator or his very favourite sweets, Sherbet Lemon. Here’s a rundown of the tasks, the rewards and the Foundables we will come across during the Darkest of Times II Brilliant Event.

The Darkest of Times II Brilliant Event Tasks

Lasting an entire week (from February 4th to February 11th), this will be the second part of the Darkest of Times Brilliant Event. This event will let us complete the second page of the event Registry, get some of the Fragments from Part I and also get our hands on some more of those precious restricted books that are holding our professional careers back.

The Brilliant Event Tasks

Just like in all previous events, this one will be split into four parts. Every task will have its own reward, with a larger reward once each of the four parts are completed. This is where we will get our Restricted Section books, along with Brilliant Foundables, event XP and much more. Let’s take a closer look at those tasks.

Our take on the tasks

Let’s look a little deeper into the tasks and figure out which ones we’ll need to prepare for, which ones might hold us back and which ones we can work at the same time as we complete the tasks for the Book Night Event.

The Spell casting

This week there are no tasks concerning our spell casting abilities. No good, great or masterful casts needed, thankfully.

However, we will have a featured spell during this part of the event just like we did in Part One. The spell we’ll be focusing on will be Arresto Momentum, with its M-shaped glyph.

It’s important to remember that to complete the task we need to cast the spell 3 times, but it doesn’t need to be successful. Which means we could cast it three times on the same Foundable and be done with it in one encounter. This time around one of the Brilliant Foundables, the Brilliant Pensieve, uses this spell, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

The Traces with Arresto Momentum are:

  • Brilliant Pensieve – Darkest of Times Family
  • Vanishing Cabinet – Dark Arts Family
  • Hand of Glory – Dark Arts Family
  • Portrait of Albus Dumbledore – Hogwarts School Family
  • Angelina Johnson – Legends of Hogwarts Family
  • Flock of Memos – Ministry of Magic Family
  • Bludger – Magical Games and Sports Family
  • Decoy Detonators – Mysterious Artefacts Family
  • Pensieve – Mysterious Artefacts Family
  • Memory Cabinet- Mysterious Artefacts Family
  • Chrystal Ball – Wonders of the Wizarding World Family
  • Dirigible Plums – Wonders of the Wizarding World Family
  • Foe Glass – Wonders of the Wizarding World Family

The Potions

-Important- During Darkest of Times I Baruffio’s Brain Elixir will last 1 hour instead if its usual 30 minutes.

We will need to use two Potions to complete the first set of tasks. We are free to use any one we like, but there’s one thing we do need to keep in mind. We will need to use a Brain Elixir in the second set of tasks.  This potion will last for a whole hour, so if you use it to complete this first set you will have to wait a full hour before you can complete the second.

Now, since you will also have to unlock 5 Portkeys to move on to part 3/4, you might decide you want to use the Elixir twice. Just make sure the time frame works for you and that you have enough Elixirs in store.

Another good potion to take, if you have it, might be the Tonic for Trace Detection, since it will help us find even more special Traces on the map.

While we need to brew two Potions in order to complete the first set of tasks, the game doesn’t specify which Potions it has to be. So we are free to brew anything we want. Just make sure both are ready to collect by the time the event starts so you won’t be stuck waiting for them to finish brewing.

Portkeys

All Darkest of Times Brilliant Portkeys will be 3 km. Unlike the first few days of Darkest of Times Part I (and in response to player feedback) these Portkeys will give out normal rewards instead of the exclusive XP rewards from before.

For this event we will need to unlock five Portkeys. This is part of the second set of tasks, so  if you don’t have silver keys or don’t want to use them you can simply take a little more time. If you are good at gauging distance walked, you might even be able to get some Portkeys started beforehand and have them almost ready by the time you reach this step.

I tried this once but got a little too close to opening before I finished the previous task. Then the game decided to add a few hundred metres on its own and opened the Portkeys before time. Which is why I recommend being careful here.

However, now that Adventure Sync is live, opening the Portkeys should be, at least, slightly easier.

Another thing worth mentioning: Portkeys from the Brilliant Event Part I will always yield a Part I Foundable (in this case Brilliant Professor Trelawney). So keep that in mind and make sure that, if you have Brilliant Portkeys left over from Part I, you will collect enough from Part II to complete the Griffin Statue Foundable.

*Reminder* Book Night Event will run from February 5th to 7th. It will also feature special Portkeys that will yield dragon eggs. So make sure you don’t collect too many Brilliant Portkey on the first day and use up all the slots, since these Dragon Portkeys will only be available for 48 hours.

note– we will need to open 10 more Portkeys to complete the Bonus Assignment, so you might not want to take the first five too slow or you might not be able to open all 15 in time. Also, Dragon Portkeys will count towards these tasks. We still don’t know how many KM it will take to open them but, if they’re 1 KM they’ll make completing these Portkey tasks a breeze.

Fortresses

The last set of tasks for this event will focus on Wizarding Challenges. However, if we time it just right, we can complete these tasks and the Book Night Event tasks at the same time.

Firstly, we will need to use 3 Darkest of Times Runestones. For the Book Night event we will need to use 5 Magical Games and Sports Runestones. That makes for a total of 8  Fortress Battles.

We also need to defeat 10 Foes for the Brilliant Event and 30 for the Book Night Event. Doing this together will save us a nice bit of time.

While we are completing this tasks, we will also need to use 7 Potions. So we might as well aim for higher Chambers. This way we’ll get more XP, more Challenge XP and more Foundable Fragments!

Time is still on our side

So all in all, this event should could take a day or two, depending on your time-zone (the later the event starts in your area, the less time you’ll have to play on day one), how much you walk, and how many potions you managed to brew ahead of time.  But, of course, this is far from a competition, and we have a whole week to complete the tasks, so there’s no need to rush!

Tasks Rewards Summary

As for the reward, if we complete every task we will get:

  • 2550 XP
  • 205 Brilliant Family XP
  • 1 Silver Key
  • 2 Ministry ID Stickers
  • 2 Ministry ID Frames
  • 1 Ministry ID Lens
  • 3 Brilliant Foundables
  • 6 Leaping Toadstool Ingredients
  • 2 Unicorn Hair Ingredients
  • 3 Hermit Crab Shell Ingredients
  • 50 gold coins
  • 15 Restricted Section Books
  • 1 Red Spell Books

A few important details

Just like in previous two-part events, map Foundables from Part I will appear during Part II, which is great if you didn’t manage to return all the Fragments. Also, if you have any leftover Runestones from part I they will start yielding the new Foundable as soon as the event begins. Once the event is over, they will yield Fragments from Part I or II at random.

The opposite applies to Portkeys. Any Portkey you still have from Part I will yield Part I fragments regardless of when you open it. So, unlike the Runestones, you shouldn’t save those Portmanteaus for Part II. They will only take up space and make it harder to complete the Part II Portkey Foundable.

Brilliant Event Tips

Here are a few tips to keep in mind before and during the event.

  • Brew your Potions in advance.  While you only need to brew 2 potions, this is part of the first set of tasks, so pre-brewing will save you a few hours or some Gold.
  • If you can, try to start the event with full energy. It will make the first day go much better.
  • Master your spells. That will make returning those Brilliant Foundables much easier and will save you time and energy.
  • Try to level up the game, but don’t get overexcited and go all out with your profession. You might want to save some scrolls for when you get those shiny Restricted Section Books and plan where to spend them when you’re done with the event.
  • Make room in your vaults for ingredients and potions.
  • Make sure Adventure Sync is enabled. It will make opening those Portkeys a lot easier.
  • Remember we will have two events running simultaneously for 48 hours. Plan accordingly. Dragons (and eggs) are extremely rare, you might want to prioritise those.
  • We’re all sure to meet some new Potterheads during the week. What better way to make new friends and possibly new teammates for your next Fortress incursion? Don’t be shy and reach out!
  • And the most important one: Have fun! (And try to convert as many Muggles as possible!)

That’s what we have for today, so go play!

Make sure you’re ready to make the most of the event, add your Friend Code to our map if you haven’t yet. You can also have a look around the map and find players in your area!

We also have a Local Community Map where you can add your Wizards Unite Communities for other players to find you!

If you have any more tips for new players make sure to leave them in the comment section! We’d love to make the most the event.
